Busy Week

Hello everyone! I hope all of you had a great week! I would like to apologize for my blog entries not posting as scheduled. We were having technical difficulties. Not to worry, everything should be fixed and from here on out blogs should post as scheduled.
I got a lot accomplished this week at YCP. I met with Dean Merkle (along with three other campus ambassadors) to discuss a student panel event that was held this past Saturday. I really enjoy participating in question and answer sessions with prospective students and parents. The event was for the Trustee Scholarship selection process. After students and parents spent the morning in various information sessions, the campus ambassadors were able to answer any questions that parents might have about the campus and student life. We also had very nice lunch in Johnson Dining Hall. I sat with a delightful family from Maryland. As we ate lunch, I was able to talk with them about my college experiences and what to expect as an incoming student.
I also had a great tour this week! I was really able to connect with the families that were visiting the YCP campus. Each family had a number of questions, which always makes the tour more interesting. I know visiting potential schools and deciding on what major is going to suit you best for a life long career can be a very difficult time for students. Giving tours is a way that I can help ease any worries for prospective students by letting them know that I was in their shoes not so long ago. Tours are also a great time for parents to ask any questions they might have about their son/daughter coming to York College. Not only is this an adjustment period for the students but for the parents as well!
This week I also had my presentation in The Family class. Because I spent suitable amount of time preparing the material, I had a thorough understanding of the topic. Accordingly the presentation went smoothly and everyone in my group did a great job!
In the upcoming week I have a lot to accomplish (including scheduling classes for the Fall 2007 semester)! I will keep you posted on how everything goes! I hope everyone has a great week! Talk to you next time!

More Snow... Where Did The Warm Weather Go?

Hello. I hope everyone had a great week! I don’t know about you, but I was not very excited about getting more snow. I am ready for warm weather. At least the snow did not cause any delays or cancellations!
I was pretty busy this week with various class assignments and exams. I worked with my group in The Family to finish up our project on family communication, which we are presenting this Wednesday to the entire class. I used to get very nervous about public speaking in these kinds of situations but since I had Human Communications (a public speaking course) this is thankfully no longer the case. Human Communications taught me to be comfortable with public speaking in many types of situations and I no longer feel anxious or have anxiety about speaking to groups. This past Wednesday I had the exam in The Family that had been postponed from the previous week due to snow. I feel confident that the extra study time was helpful and that I did well. This week I also got a lot of reading done for my Punishment/Corrections class. I have an exam coming up in that class in about three weeks. Unfortunately, because of all the snow we had, I have about three exams that were postponed until the week of April second. There is not much I can do about having all of my exams around the same time. I will just need to prepare for each one to the best of my abilities. Hopefully I will have thorough exam reviews in each class and no pop quizzes in my statistics class!
Tomorrow I am meeting with a member of Alpha Phi Sigma (National Criminal Justice Honor Society) and we are going to work on fund-raising for the organization. This is going to be another busy week with papers and projects. Wish me luck! Talk to you next time!

Hello Everyone!

Hello! I hope everyone had a great week! We got more snow in York on Wednesday, which resulted in a two hour delay. Since the roads were most likely in poor conditions, which created difficult driving situations for those students who commute, my night class was canceled (and so was the exam I was supposed to have). The exam was pushed back and is now this Wednesday night, so I will definitely need to go over the information again to be sure that I remember everything.
This upcoming week I am also taking part in a web chat for the admissions office. A few tour guides and admissions faculty gather in a school computer lab and talk to prospective students and parents via the internet about life at York College. It is a great opportunity for those persons who wish to know details about the campus and campus life.
This week I will also be meeting with my project group from The Family class. We are meeting at the library to put together a presentation on communication, conflict, work and leisure. We will most likely construct a power point, put together a skit, and create a quiz. This will provide the class with a plethora of knowledge about the topic at hand.
Because I went home this weekend to see my family, I have some studying to finish up this evening. I hope everyone has a great week! Talk to you next time!

Back From Break

Hello everyone! I just got back from a much needed winter vacation. It was great to have a break from classes, because my week before the break was so hectic. During my week off I took a trip to Boston. I was able to visit with friends and tour the city. Throughout my time there I ate at many restaurants, did some shopping, and walked all over Boston. I even found time to complete the school work that was assigned over break. I took reading for my Punishment/Corrections class to do during any down time and studied for The Family (another class that I am currently taking). After my trip to Boston, my mom and grandmother picked me up from the airport and I returned home for the weekend to spend time with my family.
Now that I am back at York I need to unpack and get ready for the upcoming week. I hope everyone has a great week! Talk to you next time!

Week Before Break

Hello everyone! I hope all of you had a great week! Because of all the snow we got at York last week, the past couple of days have been rather hectic. I had three exams, which meant a lot of studying! Luckily I was able to spend most of the week in the library and finished most of my studying there. Like I have mentioned in previous postings, I really enjoy studying in the library. It is a quiet place away from distractions where I can really concentrate on my school work. Hopefully all of the hours of studying paid off!

This coming week we are having our "winter vacation." It will be a much needed break, which I will be spending in Boston. I hope all of you have a great week! Talk to you next time!
