Another Busy Week

Hello! I hope everyone had a great weekend. I know mine was very busy! York College held an open house for prospective students. This was one of two open house opportunities where students and their families are able to visit the campus and find out about programs of study. I helped check in prospective students and their families before they got their day started off at YCP. Presentations, meeting with faculty, and eating at Johnson Dining Hall were some of the events families where invited to take part in. Besides helping out with the registration process, I was able to give campus tours to students and their families. This weekend I also had a paper to write for my Research Methods I class. It was a literature review of previous research conducted on capital punishment. When I found a free moment to relax, one of my roommates and I took some time off from studying to shop at the local mall (the York Galleria) and eat at Red Lobster!

This has been another busy week for me. Thankfully mid-terms are over and now I can start working on other course assignments. Right now I have a class project to begin and a large amount of reading to do. I am sure that those tasks and other things I need to accomplish will keep me busy throughout the upcoming week.

Talk to you next time! Have a great day!

Back From Break

Hey everyone! This has been a very busy week! I returned from Fall Break this past Tuesday, so I only had three days of class this week. Needless to say, I had plenty of homework to fill the down time! I have two mid-terms this coming Monday (Oct. 22) and a project due in my Design/Evaluation class. Most of my week has been spent writing papers and studying for Research Methods I (an upper level criminal justice course, which instructs students on the research methods process) and Human Service Techniques (a course I am taking to fulfill credits for my minor in Human Services, which provides students with necessary skills to learn helping techniques and improve one's abilities as a human services professional helper).

This week I also met with the Criminal Justice Honor Society to finalize plans for our Halloween social. Monday I will be picking up announcements to hang up around campus and hand out to students and faculty advertising our event. We decided to combine the affair with the Criminal Justice Association (which is another criminal justice organization on campus that takes part in brown-bag discussions, volunteer opportunities, and trips, among many other activities). Both organizations will take part in decorating and supervising the event. I'm sure it will a lot of fun! Who can pass up the chance to see their favorite professors decked out in Halloween garb?

Also, this coming week I will start a new physical education course called Tai Chi. My last gym class (yoga) was only a half credit course, which means I have the option to take another half credit course over the remainder of the semester. At the end of the semester I will have one full credit accumulated toward the total number of gym credits needed (I need two credits total). At the moment, I am not really sure what Tai Chi involves so this course should be very interesting!

Talk to you next time! I hope everyone has a great week!

Fall Break

I hope everyone had a great week. This week at York College was pretty busy for me. At my Criminal Justice National Honor Society meeting we decided to throw a Halloween social at Murph's, a local college hangout. Faculty and students will attend in costume and compete for prizes donated by area organizations. As of now, a potential prize may come from Cheeseburger in Paradise (a restaurant near the college that students love). I had three exams to study for this week, all of which went well. I also finished up my half-credit gym class and will be starting my other gym class shortly after I return from Fall Break.

Fall Break has been a lot of fun. Because this is my favorite season I enjoy doing many outdoor activities. While at home I attended Apple Harvest, which is an event I make sure not to miss every year. At Apple Harvest there is a lot of good food, like pumpkin funnel cakes and apple cider. There are plenty of activities to do as well, such as scarecrow making and shopping for various arts and crafts from around the area. Over break I have also been able to go pumpkin picking. A local farm has a pumpkin patch that is accessible by hay ride and drops you off to find your own pumpkin.

Overall break has been fun. I'll be returning to York on Tuesday and will begin studying for midterms. Have a great day!

Hello!

Hello everyone! My name is Kirsten and I am a junior criminal justice major with a minor in human services at York College. I am currently involved with many on campus organizations. This past Saturday I was inducted as a formal member of Alpha Chi (national honor society). The ceremony took place in the M&T Bank Field House of our new Grumbacher Sport and Fitness Center. The new gym facitily is absolutely amazing! I can't wait until I get a chance to use the rock climbing wall! Recently, I have become a member of our criminal justice honor society. This will be a very exciting experience to work with other criminal justice students doing fundraising, community service, and hopefully taking various trips throughtout the year. In past years, I have taken part in the freshman move in team and I am also an orientation leader. Being an orientation leader has been such a postive experience. It allows me to connect with incoming freshman and help make their move onto campus as easy as possible. Because I am taking courses this semester pertaining only to my major and minor, this is a very exciting semester for me. It has been a very busy semester as well! I look forward to future posts and hope everyone has a great week!
