Registration!

Hi everyone!

It's been a while, so I figured I'd drop you all a note to say hi and talk about the chaos of... the evilness of... REGISTRATION!

Here are some dos and don'ts of the registration process:

DO meet with your advisor to talk about classes, or at least print out the requirements for your major so you know what courses are required. Why? Taking courses that will not help you get your degree could have you here another semester, or use up all your electives without you knowing. Also, your advisor can help you preregister for courses you need if getting in might be an issue due to limited space in the class.

DO have a backup for everything. EVERYTHING. Have at least one or two alternates for each class that fit with your schedule. Why? Because other people register before you, and the classes will fill up. Then you can whip out your handy-dandy alternate list instead of searching frantically for a course with space left.

DO make sure you have your alternate pin and your vaccines are up to date. Why? Nothing sucks more then getting read to register and finding out you can't too late. You're guarunteed a very depressing schedule

DO be there ready to register at midnight. Logged in, alternative pin typed in, and ready to click "submit" at the changing of the clock. Why? Everyone else will be doing it. That's right. In this one case, if you choose not to follow the herd, you will be VERY sad.

DON'T have massive amounts of caffine the night of registration. Why? Yes it's at midnight, yes you're tired, but if your hands shake too much to type you could end up in Ceramics instead of Marine Bio, and then where would you be?

DON'T panic if a course you need is full. Fill in your alternate course, and go to your advisor ASAP to ask for an override into the course. Why? It just might work and you can always drop your alternate class. Why the alternate class? Just in case. HAVE A BACKUP FOR EVERYTHING!

And there is Sarah's crash course in Registration!

Yes, I registered. Next semester I'm taking:

American Lit II
SGA: Social Identity and Globalization
Population and the Environment
Human Traditions: English
Precalculus

and

Women and the Environment
OR
An independant study art credit. I REALLY hope this works out. I have a great idea for an independant study. But I'm still registered for Women and the Environment... just in case. I really need to take 18 credits next semester, and it fills a requirement for my Env. Studies major.

Good luck with getting the classes you want!

To all you high school students out there... copy this blog entry. Paste it into a word document. Save it. Refer to it when you get to college.

Trust me.
