I have to say that moving back home is the same feeling I had in September when I moved away to college. Your real excited to move out and start your life but at the same time your sad to leave all your friends and family behind. For me, UNE has become my second home. I have made so many great friends and have done so many great things together, they really became my second family. Saturday night we all went out to a Japanese restaurant in Old Port for their Rock and Roll sushi at 10:00. It was pretty awesome. They have blinking lights and a disco ball and play rock and roll music. It was a great time. Good food, good music, good company, who could ask for more? Sunday evening I packed and after my last final on Monday morning, me and Tiff finished up cleaning the room, my parents came up and we went shopping for the day before I came home. But it was kinda sad to say good-bye to all of my friends, even though i'll be seeing them again in four months. We're all planning on getting together sometime this summer and do something, maybe go to 6 flags for the day or spend the weekend at a summer home down the cape. But its hard to find the time when everyone is available when everyone has to work. We'll see. As of now, I dont even have a job. I might have a job at a local hospital as either a secretary or a tech. Who knows whats gonna happen.
But I am very happy to be back home. Right now, all of my friends are still in school but they should be home this weekend. It'll be great to see everyone again and hang out with my closest friends I havent seen in awhile.
So this will probably my last entry this year. It's been fun writing for you and share my experience as a first year student at UNE. If you have anymore questions of the school or student life or resident life or just wanna say hi feel free to leave me a comment. Good luck with the rest of your school year and have a great summer.. enjoy it! :-)
-Jess
It is now crunch time, here at UNE. Its just my cool little word of what most people know as hell week. Since 3 out of my 5 classes decide not to have a final (So great!! :D ) they will either assign a big project or a big paper due instead of a final and of course they will all be due together all in one week. But your usually not the only one going through this. EVERYONE is stressed and tired. You can see it throughout the campus! The halls are a LITTLE bit quieter and people are working more. It's a little bit better now but last week was crazy with lots of assignments due and tests to take. I finished my crazy week off on Thursday after my big chem exam, which has been a lot better than last semester! Thursday night a group of us got together and played some baseball for awhile on the softball field. It was a good time to hang out and relax and forget about school for awhile.
Today I had my last chem, precal, and english composition class. Tomorrow is the last day of classes and my last day of environmental issues!! (YES!!!) And then finals start on Thursday. My last day of freshmen year will be next Monday after my precal final at 10:45!! :D Its kinda crazy when you think about how fast this year has gone... HOLY COW!! You think high school went by fast, just wait till college.. It seems that each year is just going faster and faster. SO ENJOY IT!!!!!!!!!!!! Once you get to college, get involved, join stuff, say hi to strangers, make friends, and BE HAPPY!!!!!!!!!! :D
Good luck with finals and enjoy your last few weeks of high school and enjoy your summer!! ;-)
Sorry its been forever since Ive written anything. The past few weeks have been nonstop with homework, papers, and projects and one thing after another. Tuesdays and Thursdays are usually my free days where I only have one class at 2:30 (freakin sweet!!!) Recently, Kennebunk High School asked me if Id like to volunteer at a Learning Center they had just started. Of course I'll do it.. Id get to help kids out who dont get their homework or is stuck on some concept. Id be a tutor!! wicked awesome.. at least thats what I thought. So I spent a couple of my free Tuesdays/Thursdays at Kennebunk High School thinking id tutor but instead my job was to keep an eye on the room. If anyone showed up, make sure they sign in and dont bring in a friend.. that was my job. Thank goodness I brought some homework cause in the 3 hours I was there only 2 students showed up to use the computers. Probably wont be doing this much longer.
Besides volunteering, Ive also been spending some of my free days doing my classroom observations for my education course since Monday, Wednesday and Friday is busy all day.
We're suppose to do 12 observations for the class and I have about 4 left!!! :D
But I have been doing other things than JUST schoolwork... Lots of exciting things has happened over the past three weeks including a hike I went on with the outing club up one of the White Mountains in NH and the Spring Semi-formal. Fun fun. :D
The hike was a hell of a hike!! Walking on snow and then snowshoeing up the mountain!? Holy cow!! Probably wont be doing it ever again, especially in the snow!! But once you get to the top the view was amazing!!! And here are some pictures for you.

Me and my buds, Eric and Mike.. we made it to the top!!!

The group photo.

I just love this photo of me and mike.. its just so badass!! 8-)

And some pictures of the semi-formal which was a great time!!!! :D
Me with Kim, Danielle (my neighbors!) and my friend Maggie who came up to visit me!!

More dancing..

I just love this picture of Kim and Danielle.. hot!

And me and my lovely Anthony!! :D

So theres only 2 whole weeks and 2 days of classes left!!!!! WHOOOAAA!!!
And then all I have is 2 finals (chem and precal :-/) and then IM DONE!! I AM DONE WITH MY FRESHMAN YEAR OF COLLEGE ON MAY 7TH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
WHHHOOOOOAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!
Until next time, Have a nice day!! :-)
oh, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY TIFF!!!!!!!!!!! :-D YEEE!!!!!!!
Hey guys! Sorry its been awhile. I had a nice relaxing spring break last week Didnt do anything exciting, actually spent a good deal of it doing schoolwork.. I got most of my classroom observations done for my education class and spent a good few days getting my presentation together for environmental. But at the same time, It was great just to be home and hang out with all of my good friends.
Last Monday, yet again, we all went to the Cheesecake factory to celebrate MY BIRTYDAY!! :-D OMG!!! I freakin LOVE that place. Those of you who have never been HAVE to make a trip to Boston, Providence, or I believe there's one in NY, and GO TRY IT!!!!!

This is the yummy strawberry cheesecake they gave me!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!! SOO GOOD!! :D

Me and my birthday cake!!! :-P
Then we had a good time shopping at the Providence Place Mall. My good friend Jarryd got me a tiara at Claires and had me wear it all around the mall.. Good times.

Yeah, Im so silly. :-P
I came back to campus around 7:30 on Sunday night and then jumped right back into crazy mode Monday morning at 8AM!!! Mondays usually suck too cause I have my usual 3 classes and then a chem lab from 2-5.. ugh... chem labs can be soo long!!!! Tuesday I gave a big presentation in environmental issues, Wednesdays are also long with my night class from 6:30-8:45ish and tonight I have a chem exam at 6:30..... Its just been nonstop!!!! So I greatly apologize to those who have left a comment and Ive taken forever to answer them!!!
Aysha had a question if freshmen were allowed to bring there cars. We ARE allowed to have our cars as freshmen.. its pretty sweet. Its about $75 to get a parking permit but I think it's worth it. You can purchase a permit online at www.thepermitstore.com and type in the schools name and go from there and they'll mail to you before you move here.
I also had another question from Jaime asking if UNE gave us a 'what to bring list'. They do send you a list but its very basic. There are number of things that many students overlook when they're packing. Don't forget to pack some office supplies (stapler, tape, paperclips), extra batteries, hangers, medicine (tylenol, motrin for those stressful days). Spoil yourself and pack lots of food and snacks too!! One of the things I never packed was bowls. Make sure you bring bowls and silverware for the nights you dont feel like walking to the cafeteria and are in the mood for easy mac instead. And with dishes you'll need dish soap and a sponge!!
Luckily, if you do forget something, wal-mart and target is 15 minutes away.
Anyways, I have class in 20 mins, so I need to get going and study some more chem for tonight so I can succeed!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
Im looking forward to the end of this long week and go hiking on Saturday in the White Mountains with the outing club. Should be loads of fun. Anyways, Have a good one!! :D
For those of you who were just accepted to the University of New England, Congratulations!!!! And for those who haven't heard anything yet, be patient! Your letter will come soon!! About a year ago, I remember waiting anxiously for UNE's letter. I had heard from every other school I applied to except for the one I really wanted to go to the most. I was told that I would get a reply within 2-3 weeks and it had been 4-5 weeks with no letter!! I was worried. A week later I finally got a letter saying that I was accepted!! I was so thrilled!!!
Now that I am here, I have to say that I am very happy to be here. Although college can be more demanding and crazy at times, overall, I have had a GREAT time and have met many great friends who I love soo much. We have had the best times together, hanging at the beach in the summer, climbing trees around campus, going on random hiking trips, sledding, ice skating, playing in the snow, and just hanging out watching movies and playing video games (I freaking love mario kart!!)
Last night, I had promised Joanne that I would help out with the online chat about the student life and I greatly apologize for not signing on!!!! (If anyone has any questions about life at UNE or anything else feel free to leave a comment!! :-) I was going to sign on but my lovely friends set me up!!!!! Since my birthday is on Monday, March 12th, which happens to be on the week of spring break and we all won't be together, my wonderful boyfriend Anthony (I love you!!!) got all of our friends together and planned a surprise birthday party for me last night!!! They even got me cake!!! ( I LOVE CAKE!) And we all just hung out in my room and ate cake. Oh, but what fun it was!! You know when your with a bunch of your friends and all you do is laugh and be silly; yeah, thats what we kinda did. It was a great time being with everyone... so
THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR A GREAT SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE YOU ALL!! :D
And Thank you Anthony for putting it together.. I love you!!
Spring break is only 3 days away!!! I think its time for a little break. School has picked up a bit... more work and less playtime.. :-( Boo. But now we have a week to relax and not worry too much!! Im excited to go back to my lovely home in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. The only plans I really have is to hang out with my other great friends from home whom I also love very much!!! We'll probably be going out to the Cheesecake Factory to celebrate my 19th year of life on Monday.. :-) Im excited.. I love life here but I do miss my home. I havent been there since January!!!
I hope everyone else has a great spring break and to all those who are in their last few months of their senior year of high school.. enjoy the last few months cause they will fly!!!! (I cant even believe Im almost done with my first year of college!!!!) And good luck to all those applying to UNE!!
This past weekend was soo On Saturday, I was suppose to go skiing with my boyfriend Anthony and a few others.. actually, we we're going to go on Sunday but something came up so we were going to go on Saturday night but things came up again and he went to hang with his friends instead. Yeah, I was a little upset but it's all good because we ended up going on Tuesday night for $15 at Shawnee peak!! What a deal!!! So instead of going skiing Saturday night I went to see the Bridge to Terabithia with Tiff and Mike.... what a GREAT movie it was EXCEPT for one scene that I didnt like. Those of you who know probably has an idea what the scene was. But it was dumb because, they really didnt need to put that scene in. The movie wouldve been just as great without it!!! Ugh.. but i wont ruin the story for you. Your just gonna have to go see it for yourself.
Sunday was VERY lazy! I woke up around 9 (which is quite early for a college student!), went out to breakfast with Anthony and his mother at a nice little place in Saco. Came back to the dorm around 11:30 to my roommate still sleeping. (I apologize to those who went on the tour on Saturday morning and couldnt really see my room in Siena because she was sleeping!!) I called my mom and talked to her for a bit. (Your parents are going to miss you very much and its important to call them and keep them up to date on things. During your first few weeks of school, they're gonna expect a call from you EVERYDAY!) After that, I fell back asleep around 12:30 for a good hour until Tiff's mother called.
Naps are amazing, especially the ones where you thought you were only sleeping for a half hour and your friends are like.. no Jess, you've been out for an hour!!!! No kidding!!
So the rest of the day we just kinda hung around, played Mario Kart for awhile (I love that game!!) Then I got a call from my good friend Marie saying how she was also bored and wanted to go shopping.. Sweet!! So we took a trip to the Maine mall to kill some time and avoid our homework. But when we got back around 5:30 or so, it was time to do some business and get some work done for Monday.
My school week has been pretty busy too. School has definatly picked up and now I have a number of things to get done before spring break in a couple of weeks. When Im not doing school, Im usually working at the University Health Care in Saco as a work study. Thats not too bad.. its work. It what gets me the money I need to go out with friends and get gas for my car.
Speaking of work, I really have to call a bunch of schools and make appointments to get observations done for my education class. Your required to get 12 observations done for the semester and so far I've gotten none! Hopefully I'll get some done back home during spring break. But until then I hope everyone has a great day!!! :D
Feel free to leave me any comments. It would make my day!!
Thanks!!
<33
Well I finally got what I wanted... A GIANT SNOWSTORM!!! well sort of.. the storm only lasted a day so it wasnt that huge, but we had all classes cancelled!!! :-D And since I was a good kid and finished my homework the night before, I didnt have to worry about school all day!! Went sledding around campus in the middle of the storm and then it got so windy and cold that we just relaxed in the rooms drinking hot chocolates and watching movies.
A few days ago, my friends and I went to Scarborough High School to go sledding. Scarborough High had a massive, beautiful hill.. it was amazing!! And someone had made a huge jump near the end of the hill and we just kept flying off it.. oh man!! It was soo much fun!! I was trying to land on my feet but it just didnt work out. Oh, I love jumps.. Im so crazy. :-) I wish I took pictures but sadly, I forgot to bring a camera.
This past weekend was great. A few friends from home came up to visit and stayed for two nights. Friday night we had an intense game of Sorry going on. Everyone had three of their pieces in home and had their last piece just a few spaces away in the safe zone. It was close but of course, I WON! Saturday I took them sight seeing, then we went shopping at the Maine Mall, and then went big ball bowling (not that fake candlepin stuff!!) in Westbrook. It was a great time seeing them and hanging out with them again.
Sunday night we finally went ice skating at this pond near campus.. coolest thing ever!! I really thought it was just a pond until a few weeks ago when i saw people ice skating!!! Its a real nice place that has skate rentals and plays music and everything like an arena but ITS A POND!!!!!
Ive never skated on a pond before..

Thats me figure skating and being silly like always... :-P

We tried skating with a chain and fling people but then we all fell, then we took a picture!!

I made a pretty snowangel and then Mike put boobs on her!!!! >:-O Not needed!!

And our lovely group photo.. :-) Good times.
Not real happy how all professors plan to give big assignments and exams all at the same time. Things are beginning to pick up.. not too bad but theres more work. Shouldn't be too bad. But I must go and study for chem. Enjoy the week everyone and STAY WARM!!!! :D
Ok, so hopefully this entry will work this time. I was so upset last time because I had a good entry! Anyways, as you can see, things have been busy. Busy, but good! Second semester is a heck of a lot better than the first! Unfortunatly, I had to retake Precal, I passed... but with a D. So now I'm taking it with a different professor and things are much better. Some of the other people in my class also had precal last semester with the same professor that I had and didn't do so well, so that makes me feel a little better. Like today, I finally understood what the end behavior was and how to figure it out!! Its so easy!!!!!! Oh, I love it when things click.
And I just got the C I needed in chem to move onto chem 2 and im also taking that with a different professor and that has been great!! Things are clicking like crazy and I'm finally learning and understanding chemistry which makes me happy because Im a nerd and love chemistry!!!! :D Im also taking english composition which is a prerequisite for all freshmen. I was a little nervous to take the class cause I really hate english and reading but actually the class is pretty great!! I really like my professor, shes great! We're currently reading Stephan King's On Writing which is kinda like an autobiography on himself and how he became a writer and Im actually enjoying it which is not like me cause I HATE reading!!
So overall, school is MUCH better!!! And the student life, of course is great!! Im so happy to be back here and be with all of my friends. We've gotten a good amount of snow here and have gone out sledding and played in the snow!!! :D Hoping to go ice skating tomorrow.
The snow is so perty too!!!!

Thats the view of the Saco River just outside my window..
And this is to prove to you exactly how cold its been!!!! --->
THERES ICE ON MY WINDOW!!!!!!!!!!! :-O
Last night was the last game that our brand new pep band played at. We started out with 7 players and grew to 9!! We had a great time playing at the basketball games and hoping to grow more next year.. we're always looking for players! ;-)

That us busting out a tune with the percussion instruments during 1 of the timeouts.

And that is me and Sam being silly as always. :-D
So ya, you should join band next year!!!! Its lots of fun.
So the life in Maine has been great. Tonight, we all might go out to our favorite restaurant THE TIN TIN BUFFET!!!!!!!!!!! OH EM GEE!! we LOVE that place!!!!!!! :-P Should be fun. Until then, have a great day all!!!! :D
You know what really stinks? Is when you spend a good half hour writing a nice entry for the nice blog page and then when your almost done, your blasted computer freezes and you lose everything!!!!!!! gaaahhh!!!!!!!!!! And now, I have to go to class so I will write more later..
Have a great day and Im sorry its been awhile.. :-)
Jess
Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and everyone enjoyed their vacation. I had a great time being home and seeing all of my friends again. Great thing about winter breaks in college is that its 3 weeks long instead of one and there's no homework at all because your done with your classes and when you come back in January, you start all over again with new classes and mostly new professors.
Today was our first day of classes, I've had 3 of my 5 classes already this morning and Im feeling much more confident of this semester than last. Last semester was just miserable!! Im taking chem with a new professor and retaking precal since I didnt do quite well, good thing is I passed but not enough for me to take calc next year.. lucky me. But ya, i really like the professors I have now, hoping this will be a much better semester.. I think it will. :-)
So, VACATION... it was freakin great!! :-D Went bowling with my good ol' pals and went to IHop a few times for breakfast @ 11.. IHop is amazing. Anthony came down for a few days, too bad he cant say the name of our town right.. (its pronounced FAHaven not FAIRhaven) heh.. we still love ya!!
We went mini golfing at a cool indoor place w/ blacklights, its pretty neat and lots of fun!!
Thats my good buds Meg and Beth in a clam w/ Kendra on top of the clam doing god knows what
Kendra riding a dolphin

Me picking at the shark's teeth

Jarryd and Kendra hanging out at the tiki hut at hole #18
So ya, its definatly a fun little oceanic place to take silly pictures at. The highlight of vacation was going to the Providence Place Mall (gotta love the PP Mall). We had a great time in Brookstone playing with the massage chairs.

Thats me on the massage chair.

Waffle man!! (aka anthony)

Beth and Jarryd.. Jarryd looks soo happy!! :-)
Then we went out to eat at the CHEESECAKE FACTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!! DEFINATLY OH EM GEE!!!!!!!!!! :-D If your ever in Providence, RI or Boston GO EAT THERE!!!!!! They have THE best cheesecake EVER!!!!!!!!! its soo good... :-P

Me and my oh so good pineapple CHEESECAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-D

A lovely group photo at the restaurant!! :-)
So being home was a GREAT time but I am soo happy to be back here at UNE w/ my UNE buds. As of now, me and Tiff are still semi-unpacking and putting things away. Right now it looks like a bomb blew up in the room but we're working on it. Our refidgerator is quite disgusting but that will be tomorrow's project. Umm... I have nothing else exciting to say, but Im damn glad to be back here!! :-) have a great day!!! :-D
