Let's Get Physical!
OK, so last week...was a bad week for me. Sorry my blog was ridiculously depressing.
I'm gonna try and make it up to you!
Now, piggy-backing on Amanda's entry about getting FAT in college, I'm going to share with you my exerience.
I did gain the "15" but it wasn't until my sophomore year, fall semester. By the time the holidays rolled around I was very unhappy with myself. Come New Years, I did what every one does, I made a New Years Resolution to diet and exercise. BUT I actually stuck with it. I have lost the "15" plus another 30 since then!
How did I do this you ask?
Well, it was a diet adjustment for sure, but my access to the Campus Center Fitness Center has really helped out. Having a gym SO accessable makes going a lot easier! Plus, there is great equiptment. Elipticals, treadmills, steppers, bikes, recumbant bikes, and row machines....a ton of free weights and the full circuit of stationary weight machines.
Don't know what to do at the gym? No problem, because at UNE there are students going to school to be fitness instructors. A few students work in the Fitness Center to help students get the most out of their workouts. There are set times that you can either drop in or make an appointment to get their advice and guidance. And guess what, IT IS FREE!
Do you get bored on the stationary cardio equiptment? Who doesn't right?
Well, my new found Fitness Center fav is the Cardio Club that offers cardio classes to students taught by student instructors. Especially the Kickboxing class. I can go Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-4 and get a great work out while having fun with a group of people. As an extra bonus, Val, our instructor, incorporates self defense by indicating what area of the body we would be targeting when we throw our punches and our kicks...you're not gonna want to meet any of us in a dark alley!
Me getting ready to do a jab, cross punch into the pads that Val bravely holds!
Other girls from the class enjoying their new found moves.
Other classes that the Cardio Club offer include ballet, hip hop and yoga.
The classes are fun and offer a shake up to any old work out. Oh...and these are FREE too! (Well except the yoga, because that is a professional instructor. But it is ONLY $10 for the session. Super cheap!) If you are concerned about your physical fitness as you head off to college, this is definately something to pay attention to and get involved with right away!
