Interview with a Dental Hygiene Student
Nursing isn’t the only major taught at WCC. Actually a majority of students who attend this campus branch of UNE are dental hygiene students. The dental hygiene school at UNE is highly acknowledged and renowned school of dental hygiene. I decided to share an interview with the talented dental hygiene student Chelsea Toussaint, who was nice enough to take time out of her busy schedule to answer some important questions pertaining to the Dental Hygiene school at UNE. I hope this may interest some future dental hygiene students out there!
What made you decide to major in D.H.?
I actually took a year off after high school and researched various career possibilities. After a recommendation from a friend, I looked into dental hygiene and became very interested in it. The great career opportunities, flexible hours, interaction with people, rate of pay and personal satisfaction from helping people are all qualities that attracted me to this profession.
What interested you to UNE 's D.H. program?
First of all, I wanted to stay in Maine for my college education and that presented me with two schools to choose from. I looked into each one, and decided to attend UNE because of it's great small-town feel and strong, accredited dental hygiene program. It's situated right in Portland, which is a fun city on the ocean to get out and relax with your friends. It's a very well structured program overall, and you learn so much through the in-classroom and clinical experiences.
What are your plans after UNE?
I plan to either continue my education in the dental field or move back to northern Maine to practice dental hygiene.
What is unique about UNE compared to other D.H. schools?
UNE has a very challenging dental hygiene program, but the instructors all know you by name and are willing to help you in any way to achieve your goals. Whether it's in the classroom or on the clinic floor, they offer their time and expertise to help you be the best student you can be.
Anything else you may like to say?
If you're thinking about dental hygiene, go for it! It's a rapidly growing career field that presents many challenges and rewards along the way.
