Unbelievably...the holidays are upon us.....

I cannot believe it is Thanksgiving week. Where did the Fall go? Apparently this is week 13 of classes..... Wasn't it just week 1? Wow.

I think one of the reasons it seems implausible that this is the end of the semester is that I only have the one class right now - Practice - and we just started a new module, with a new professor! It is so weird to be beginning at the traditional-academic-end-of-things. We had our second class in the new module last week. We're just hitting the new groove, just getting a grip on what is going to be required in terms of assignments. Things seem totally out of order. It cannot, it seems be the end of the semester when the class is just beginning!

Despite the general aura of weirdness, I am really enjoying the new section on Groups in Practice. Maybe it's simply the unexpected freshness of new subject matter, but it all seems quite interesting and exciting. I look forward to class. I find myself wondering if I would be any good at this kind of work....

Well, I wish all of you a safe and happy Thanksgiving. The next time we catch up, I'll be grinding out the last assignments of the semester!

An Ending of Sorts

Last week we finished the first module of Practice. This course is divided into three, 10-week segments. Each part of the course deals with a different subject area and has its own instructor. All foundation students have "Individuals" in the first module. Thereafter, half of the practice classes have "Groups" while the other half has "Community Organizations." The third section of the course is whichever topic you did not have in the second module. For example, my class will have Groups starting next week. Our third module will be Community Organizations.

I don't know if it was because our last paper was due on the last day of class, or if it was because we were talking about termination in individual work, but I feel like I completed a hurdle. Last year I heard the most about the Individuals module, so I'm hoping that means I have now completed the most difficult portion of this course. We'll see I guess.

I'm curious to see what the Groups portion is like. I think I am supposed to organize and lead some sort of group at my field placement. Since I have no prior experience with group work, I'm glad I'm in a practice class that is having this module second, rather than third.

That's about all that's going on this week. Take care --
