Admission Staff Retreat

It is an annual tradition at the end of each admission cycle-- our staff retreat where the counseling staff meets for three days to reflect on this past year and start planning for next year. This retreat is where many of our new initatives are created (new ideas for things like our publication materials or on-campus events), as each counselor has the opportunity to share his or her thoughts with the rest of the staff. After drawing up plans and giving each counselor their projects/responsibilities, we have the summer to put the plans into motion and make sure they are ready to go for next fall! At the same time, the retreat is a nice bonding experience for the counselors, and gives us the chance to relax and take a look back at how the past year went.

So, I will talk to you again when we return!!! Have a nice week!

End of the Semester @ PC

Hi everybody! Long time, no chat...

Yesterday marked the final day of exams for the spring semester here at PC, which means campus is very quiet today. Almost all of our underclassmen have headed home for the summer, although all of our seniors are still on campus for their Commencement Week activities. Our graduation date is this Sunday, May 20, and the realization that four years of college are over has started to sink in for many of our seniors. A few of the counselors from the office had lunch with my fellow blogger (and soon to be PC graduate) Jackie on Monday, and she definitely echoed that sentiment-- excited about the future (especially now that she does have a job lined up!!! Congrats!!) but sad that she is leaving the campus she's called home for the last four years. Jackie-- we all appreciate the work you did in our office over the past semester and we wish you the best of luck post-graduation!!!

The admission staff is currently wrapping up the end of this year's admission cycle, and we are preparing for our staff retreat next week where we will talk about how this year went and about plans for next year. Although the summer months are less hectic in our office than many other times of the year, we spend a great deal of time preparing for the next year; reworking programs, creating new publications, starting new office initiatives, and planning travel schedules for the fall. We also will welcome many soon-to-be seniors in high school to our campus in June, July, and August, as many students will tour college campuses over the summer in order to start narrowing down the list of schools they will apply to in the fall.

I hope you are enjoying the spring weather-- we certainly are here in Providence!!! Have a great week!!

Springtime in Providence!

I have returned from my spring travels in California to sights and sounds of spring on campus here in Providence! There are a lot of students taking advantage of the sunshine and warmth by studying for their final exams outside today! Good luck with those exams, everyone!!

More Waiting List Information

For those of you on the waiting list, here is the most up-to-date information we have for you: This past weekend, a small group of students were admitted to PC from our waiting list. We anticipate that further activity will take place sometime early next week.

We were particularly cautious with our offers of admission this year to make sure that we did not over-enroll our residence hall capacity. Therefore, it has been our expectation that we would be able to accommodate some students from the waiting list for the Class of 2011.

Remember, the number of additional offers we will make will depend on the number of additional deposits we receive through the May 1 postmark deadline. This will also give us the opportunity to evaluate our full financial aid expenditures to determine if funding will be available to any students admitted in the future.

Over the next couple of weeks, we will be monitoring waiting list activity at other institutions to determine whether any students who have deposited at Providence College decide to change their plans. In order for us to assure that we do not fall short of our class goal because of the loss of deposits, we anticipate that we will keep the waiting list active through the month of May.

At the point when we determine that there are no longer spaces available in the class, all students remaining on the waiting list will be notified in writing. Unless you hear from us directly, the waiting list is still active.

Please continue to check your e-mail for updated waiting list information, and I will continue to post new developments here as they happen.
