School's Out For the Summer!!

Hey everybody!! I wanted to take this time to say goodbye and thank you for keeping up with me throughout the academic year. I'm glad that I could open your eyes a bit wider to life on campus and introduce you to some of Mount Aloysius College's finest. I always enjoy receiving your comments and feedback as well as meeting you at your visits to the campus.

To wrap things up, I just took my last two finals and feel pretty confident about them. I am definitely experiencing what Professor Kensinger refers to as "Brain Drain!!" I am excited to be done with classes, but can't wait to see what next semester has in store for me. As far as next semester goes, I will be preparing for my position as an RA and as Co-Captain of the Soccer team all summer long. I will also be working on new ideas for Student Government Association and a club that I may be starting in the fall, Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE). It will be a club that stresses the importance of ending global violence, whether it is environmental, school, violence to the self, etc. -Sounds like a busy summer huh?? I will be doing all of this on top of my babysitting job and possibly a job at Chili's.

Just about all of my friends have moved out of the Residence Halls and are home for the summer. Becky and I are the only ones left, but we'll be leaving after her final in Geography tonight. I'm going to Sunbury with her to meet her family, after which we will be heading to Reading to meet up with Bobb and Ashley. The four of us are going backpacking on the Appalachian Trail for three days (30 miles!!!!). :o( This will be incredibly interesting because I have never even been camping before. I'm just afraid that the backpack will be bigger than me. Haha!! :o) If I don't make it, they will need to find another blogger!!

I guess it is time to say goodbye. I hope to see some of you as new freshman faces on campus in the fall. Maybe I will see some of you at our summer visitation day in July! Stay safe this summer. Wear your sunscreen!!

God Bless
Laura

Student Recognition Banquet

Last night was our annual Student Recognition Banquet. The theme of this year's banquet was "Leave No Stone Unturned." It is held to recognize students, clubs, and organizations on campus who have gone above and beyond the call of duty throughout the school year. These students are those leaders on campus who can be found participating in athletics, campus ministry, performing service projects within the Mount Aloysius College community and in the local community, or in various clubs and organizations that are working to make a difference.

I was elected Student Ambassador of the Year along with my friends Amber Galson and Owen Standley. What is special about this award is that it voted on by our peers as well as the faculty and staff that we work with on a daily basis. Owen and I were also given the Mercy Presidential Leader of the Year award for our leadership and involvement on campus.

The banquet is also used for announcing the newly elected Student Government Association officers for the next academic year. I was elected Vice President so I will be teaming up with John Porter, who was elected President. This is an excellent opportunity for the two of us to have a voice and hand in making great changes on campus. We can't wait to get started. I'm sure we are going to be talking about it a lot over the summer!!

Well, I think it's time for me to get some studying done. I have a final in American History on Friday and I have some chronology to memorize. Wish me luck!!
