Keys To A Successful College Experience...

Hello again everyone, I hope school is going well for you. My classes are going well and graduation is nearing. Recently, some students have come to me with concerns about college life and school work. From experience, college is only hard if you make it hard for yourself. What I mean by this is that, here at Mount Aloysius College, the students have every opportunity to get assistance with their school work. I have had many meetings with my professors and I must say that it was time well-spent. Being that our classes are relatively small here, my professors could spend more individual time with me when I needed it.

Also, keeping up or even staying ahead with assignments can make your college life easier. The main thing is that you have to know how to prioritize your personal time, so you can do your school work. Being on your own comes with responsibilities and decisions. I dont want to sound like a parent, but they are right sometimes, if not all the time. The decisions you make will have an effect on your life now and will eventually have an impact on your life later. The more work and effort you put toward anything in life, the better the results.

I hope I gave some good advice and good luck during your senior year. Until next time, good bye to all and God bless.

Hittin the Books...

Hello everyone! Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Being involved with the many activities at Mount Aloysius College keeps me on my toes constantly. I saw while I was away some students had left some comments that I will reply to in this blog. One of the questions was, "Do you think Jeff Karstens is a good pickup for the Pirates?" Well, I think he was a good pick up for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He almost threw a perfect game, but yes he did struggle a bit. From my experiences as a Mounties pitcher, I know what it is like to pitch from behind also. If your offense doesn't give you runs, it is harder for a pitcher to keep you in a game even if that pitcher has his best stuff that day. When teams score runs, it takes away the pressure for the pitcher. I think that Karstens will get better over the years from experience and practice. Being a pitcher is just like school work. When you hit the books and stay focused on your school work, you will get good grades. Just like in pitching, if you work hard, work out, and practice you will get great results.

The beginning of the 2008 fall semester...

Hello everyone! I hope the beginning of this fall semester is going well for you. For me, this semester has been full of excitement and a lot of work. I'm currently carrying three jobs here on campus which keeps me pretty busy. I've been working in the admissions office, continuing to complete my internship. My second job is working in the Residence Life Office, assisting Head Baseball Coach Kevin Kime on Student Life activities. My third job consists of helping in the school’s cafeteria.
As far as my classes go, they are great. I'm taking fifteen credits this semester in Business Administration. My days are long, but I know down the road all of this hard work will pay off! It’s still a major shock to know that I don't have any eligibility left to play Mountie baseball. I already miss the practices, games, and intervening with my teammates. Like I mentioned in my first blog, I will still be around the team, helping out the pitching staff. I still plan to pursue my dream of playing professional baseball in the future. I have been in the weight room non-stop and working on my pitching mechanics. I wish that all the students have a fantastic semester and "God Bless."

Summer adventures at MAC and beyond...

This is my first blog entry and my senior year is less than two weeks away. My summer was very overwhelming, but fun. I was occupied by umpiring Little League games, working in the admissions office here at Mount Aloysius College, and playing summer baseball for Creekside in the Indiana County league. Umpiring Little League games was an incredible experience. I like to work with kids and teach them what I know about baseball. Working in the admissions office is a great learning experience and I'm learning how to adapt to the business world. Playing baseball for Creekside is a one in a lifetime adventure. My team-mates are a bunch of clowns as well as being really great friends. We have won the championship three years straight and are patiently waiting to make it number four next year. I have already played four years of baseball here at MAC in which I have the school records for the most wins and strikeouts as a pitcher. This past season has paved the way for me to have the opportunity to play professional baseball. Even though I'm out of college eligibility, I still plan on working out with the team as a mentor. I'm looking forward to completing my senior year in Business Administration and I will be graduating with a Bachelors degree. I hope everyone has a great year and I'm going to leave you with one of my favorite quotes "Go hard or go home."
