The Academic World Is a Taco...

If you would like a taste of what Mount Aloysius College is all about, I've created an interesting analogy for you.

Students are the meat of the institution. And let's face it, without the meat, the taco is just a glorified Dorito. The lettuce represents nature and the cheese represents...cheese...because everybody likes cheese. The sour cream is the snow that is cool and refreshing. The fire sauce adds the kick that gives it that zesty south-of the-border sense of danger. Finally, the campus is the taco shell. It holds all the elements together in harmony. But, we all know what happens when we jam too much of the taco meat into that confined space. The taco shell gets soggy and breaks. Then the whole experience is ruined and nobody can enjoy the taco.

Hello, I'm Adam DePiro, and that was complete nonsense. But, in a way my metaphor also applies to the the small school atmosphere. There's a lot of us here, but not so many that you can't find a moment of peace, let alone get any studying done. I was at a larger school and trust me, the constant noise gets to you. The Mount Aloysius taco is also flavored with a perfect student/teacher ratio and an expanding curriculum, so it's like a never-ending taco platter. Shove too many students in the shell, and it will collapse and the meat will scatter everywhere.

Sorry, guys. I've been reading poetry for Lit class, and I think my brain got stuck. The analogy is my mental playground. See, there I go again.

That's all I have. I just kinda wanted to mess with you guys a little bit. I'll give you another entry really soon. Later on.

You should probably go get some tacos...I'll bet I made you hungry.

No Sugar Tonight in My Coffee...

...No sugar tonight in my tea...

It's the new Mother Nature taking over! And I realize that no one reading this blog listens to the Guess Who, but I don't care. Their music tastes like strawberries and cream to my ears. But that's beside the point. Which begs another question, what's my point any way?

Tuesdays are brutal. This guy said, "Eh, 8 hours of class, I'm a tough guy, I can handle it." Well, I can deal with it. But today I made the mistake of wearing pants that were too long and they soaked up the melted snow and got the insides and outsides of my shoes all wet. So, from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. I was in wet socks and a big ole' hurry. Haven't quite found my groove yet. If you see it, let me know.

Despite my mental state, classes are going well. I've handed in my first assignments in Ethics and Comparative Politics. I have my first college math assignment due tomorrow, unless a comet hits the Earth and destroys all the math books (Come on, Space, you owe me!). But guess what. It's already finished. I am just sitting here looking at it. ARGH...math. Awww, but I love Prof. Andrews...she gives off a cool vibe. I have an interesting assignment from Prof. Steinbesier. I'm supposed to bring in something that is good, bad, kitch, and camp. I can't explain it all, but it's really cool. So there you have it!

Just one more thing. Way to go Mountie girls nice win over rival PSU Altoona! The game was especially great in my new navy blue Mount Aloysius hoody....that was a nice free gift (thanks to my friends in Admissions). New hoody mojo, good stuff. That's all! You'd better be visiting soon!

Welcome back......to the Revolution!

Hello, Mounties and pre-Mounties!

Once again you have entered the nation of relaxtion, where the population only feels only the sensation of warm, fuzzy vibrations! I, the mighty DePiro, have returned from my Christmas odyssey. I hope that your Christmas was a great one. We had house guest for like 20 days so things were a little crowded, but I love my family so that's just fine. I got a new hoodie, a harmonica, and The Te of Piglet (see also: The Tao of Pooh). Santa didn't bring me the radio-active T-Rex that I was gonna drag race with, but hey, there's always next year. What else, hmmmmm. Oh, my brother finally got a new job, a data entry something something, all I know is that he's going to be making more money than I am, until I graduate that is... Mom is crazy, Dad is salty, Hendrix the cat.....Rules! So everything is about the same, except for......

Would everybody that had a 4.0 put their hands up. Oh, look at that, my hand went up. I SUPER OUTER SPACE RULE!Since my credits from another institution do not carry over QPA points, I have a 4.0 CUMULATIVE GPA. Now the pressure is on me, yeesh!

I really like my new classes. I have Dr. Smith for two more classes: History of America and Comparative Politics. I think she may be trying to fill my head with new readings, but I'm totally jacked for these classes. The subject matter kind of overlaps so I got that going for me. Kinda bummed about not having Dr. Rohlf but I think Fr. Ferencz will fill his spot well. That dude is a mile a minute. I have him for Ethics II. It it's gearing toward ethical choices in the medical field. Go, Stem Cells! I think my most entertaining class will be my Critical Thinking in Literature class. Prof. Steinbeiser has a seriously wicked sense of humor, and she just keeps the zingers comin'. But she has a great approach towards her class and I think it will be an experience. Finally, errrr, finally I HAVE MATH. why, why ,why do I still have math. I didn't do anything wrong. I didn't hurt anybody.....that didn't deserve it, naw just kidding (not kidding). I know a have to do it, and it is my last one. But still, I look at a math problems and the numbers just start swirlin'. I think that Dr. Andrews will do a good job though. She's a very sweet lady, and teaching on a bad foot, that's double tough.

Let's bring it home. New classes, new faces, new challenges to dominate. And at least in my mind, the Steelers are in the playoffs, so Go Black and Gold! If you are not here, come schedule a visit and see why Mount Aloysius is seriously delicious!

Give yourself a high five for reading all the way!
