Halloween in the Library

It's October 31st. It's Halloween, BOOOOOO!!!

What's up all you creepy crawlies? It's that guy that looks like Frankenstein and the Wolfman had a baby..... and then it was raised by Superman. Yeah, that would be awesome.

How's everybody? Get lots of candy? Good.

Fun Fact: I have just discoverd how cool the library is at night. Usually when I come here to read, it's nice and quiet. But right now it's all dark and spooky and really quiet. I actually sat and read for two straight hours without staring off into space. Awesome, high-five library!

Well, my Mountie minions, I must jet since class starts in five minutes. In the spirit of Halloween, imagine me turning into a bat and flying away...

Don't eat candy without the wrapper!

It's Game Time...

Hey Guys!

Did you ever have a really great weekend? I did, and so far it's also a pretty sweet Monday. My little brother celebrated his birthday on Saturday night. In honor of Halloween, we were also adorned in pirate garb. Imagine running into a pair of 300+ pound pirates in public. Scary...

Oh, my Steelers. You are still the greatest franchise in the history of ever, but guys, you lost to the Raiders. Shake it off everybody... Super Bowl, Super Bowl, Super Bowl. Ok, I feel better. It can't be your year every year but that's the natural order of things.

This leads me to the single class period that I have been waiting for all year! My World Relgion class looked at Taoism today. The other religions took so long to discuss that we only get one class period on my favorite topic, but if you understand Taoism, you know that one class is all you need. The natural order of things, wu-wei, do nothing... all of these and more. I could have sat there all day. And for the second time this year, a professor mentioned my favorite book, The Tao of Pooh (read it, seriously).

Well, it's time for math class. Good thing Mount Aloysius College built that new walking mall. I can really cruise down it when I'm hustling to class. Imagine me taking off past the big refurbished statue of Saint Al. You know, like I'm starting a race. And the Chariots of Fire music playing faintly in the background. Dun, dun, ditty dun dun...

Okay, seriously. I gotta go. I don't want to be late for class!

And you. Get to class on time.

Glad To See You Are Still Reading My Blogs!

I love Mount Aloysius College. The scenic view of campus, the students and faculty, the newly renovated statue of Saint Al on the walkway...love it all.

And what have the books taught me today? Taoist philosphy and Confucious teachings. I'm learning how to pronounce Chinese words with z's in them. How did Mao Zedong get so popular, the long march, World War II, stuff like that. I have a few tests coming up as well.

It's almost my little brother's birthday, so I'm planning a Costume/Birthday Party for Lee! So between the planning and the birthday gathering, I'll catch you later.

Take some time to DISCOVER MAC...a super-awesome place!

Some Serious Stuff...

Hey Guys,

Wow, you guys have to go out and get yourself a Fusion razor. My face feels super awesome. Plus, it's not all torn up, and I have delicate little baby skin. Anyway....

GUESS WHAT!!!! Straight A's. That's right...this guy has a 4.0 at midterm. I don't mean to brag, but yeah, I'm totally bragging. I have straight A's!! Mount Aloysius College has definitely helped me to keep my focus, and I'm super-passionate about my major.

We're having math games in class today. My professor is pretty creative with that kind of stuff, plus we usually do it in groups, and it gives me a chance to learn with others.

I went to the play, "Talking With..." You guys should check it out! The last girl actually made my mouth drop open. Seriously. But I won't tell you why...you'll have to go see it for yourself. And man, Alumni Hall is totally cool. What historic architecture. Excellent building to house a play.

Hmmmmmmm. I'm hungry. I'll have to talk to you guys later.

Reach for the top!

I'm Back, Jack!

Boy, what a sweet fall break! I was cruising along real smooth-like for the long weekend. How have you been? I hope your weekend went well, and you got ahead in your homework. But, seriously.

It's nice to be back in class, absorbing whatever the professor dishes out. Dr. Rohlf is starting the eastern religions. Confucianism, Taoism...great stuff in there. Dr. Smith started on World War II in history. It's always cool to learn a story from a new perspective. If you like stuff like that, check out the history major. My one-credit CLS class wrapped up this week. We did our presentations which totally rocked. We farmed potatoes and then cooked them for class. I made some homemade potato chips and one of our other guys made an awesome potato salad.

It's good to be back. Be excellent to everyone, and live on, dudes!

Keep the faith...

Listen Up, Future Mounties!

I'm doing well at Mount Aloysius. I just had a quiz in world religion. I wrote about Ahoska, an Indian King, who was responsible for the spread of Buddhism. It was a great essay, if I do say so myself.

My CLS class is wrapping up for the semester since it's a one-credit course for transfer students. We are doing group presentations on potato farming in the Cresson-area, and then we're serving various potato delicacies. I'm going to have my Aunt Heather help me out with some homemade potato chips! Yummity YUM!

In the next Far East class, we are going to start studying the 1911 revolution in China. For a history major, that topic is super-exciting. I'm even more excited though about receiving my mid-term grades. I hope they are as great as I think they are going to be! I'm very confident about my first semester here at Mount Aloysius College.

It's almost fall break! Time to get pumped!

Don't forget to chew 32 times...

The Latest from the Greatest...

First of all, let's give it up for the weather! Fall foliage is at its peak, and cooler weather is approaching. It takes me a few weeks to get copasetic for pants weather. I'm always disappointed when it's time to pack away the shorts!

Ohhh...Steelers. It's okay. The next person who tells me they are looking terrible is in serious trouble. Defending Super Bowl Champions, that's all I have to say. But, this is a blog about Mount Aloysius College, so I suppose I'd better talk a little about college life at MAC.

If any of you would like to take a class that will challenge you, take Dr. Rolhf for world religion. The eastern religions are so radically different from western thought that I find myself continually challenged. The pay off is that I look at daily life differently and have a better understanding of my own religion. It's just cool to even think about it!

If you are into cold, hard facts, hit up Dr. Smith for history class. We are so very close to starting Mao Zedong, I can taste it. Was he a necessary evil? I hope to maintain my A in this class!

Oh, and for you potential transfer students, my one-credit CLS course is wrapping up! The class was super-exciting!!

Love you Mounties!

Go to school because school is cool.

Live, from Cresson Summit!

It's Mount Aloysius College Today, with your host, me, Adam DePiro. How is everybody doing? It's Friday of Week Six! Man, this semester is moving right along. I've turned in almost three research proposals this week. It's always difficult to project what a paper will be before you actually write it. Well, maybe that's just me. Let's take religion for example. I have to focus on a certain aspect of a particular religion. I want to do something on Taoism, but we are studying Buddhism in class, and it rocks, too. What should I do?

I also had to turn in a topic in Women's History. At first, I wanted to write about Elizabeth Cady Stanton, but everyone seemed to turn in a proposal to write about her. However, I was in CLS the other day, and Sister B.J. from Campus Ministry came in and gave a presentation on Frances Warde who was a Sister of Mercy and was a major player at Mount Aloysius College in the early days. I decided to change my paper proposal so I can write about her instead.

That's the great thing about professors. They are always willing to make a deal as long as you can back up your logic. That's not easy for me to do because I'm so unique that if I tried to explain myself, it would be...well, creepy. I'm just kidding!

I love you Steelers! Back on track on Sunday night! One for the other hand!

Oh, yeah. And if you watch channel 70 at 8 a.m., G.I. Joe is on! That totally starts my day out right!

Remember, knowing is half the battle!

So You Are Still Reading My Blogs, eh?

What did I do this week? Well, let me tell you. I attended the Women's Volleyball game the other night. They fought a tough match, and we played hard. Those girls are AWESOME!

We started discussing Feudal Japan in history and played Sudoku in math class. I just finished a test in my religion class. It was a challenging exam, but overall, I thought I did well.

Let's talk about rough days. I know you guys have them. I had one yesterday. I'm juggling a job and full-time classes which can be a challenge, so I decided to take my own advice and not take life so seriously. The key to difficult days is that they end. If you are having a rough day, it's just another day. And like my old man says, "It can't rain all the time." And as I write this, I'm looking outside at a bright sun-shiny day on the Mount Aloysius campus. I am thinking to myself, "Gee, whiz. I'm feeling better already!"

I'm so excited to be attending Mount Aloysius College!
