Big News from the Big Guy!

Hello! I'm looking for a few good Mounties!

How's everybody doing? Right now I'm focusing on my academics! Exams are popping up all around me. I have tests in math, History of the Far East, Women's History, and religion. But I am weathering the storm well.

How great is this! After a couple weeks of me talking about how great Mount Aloysius College is treating me, my cute, cuddly, little brother decided to come up for a visit. The Admissions Office had only good news to give him because his SAT scores are OUTSTANDING! They are so high that he can choose any program that he wants. And, with a little bit of luck, next year he'll be hangin out on campus with you, me, and my good buddies here at Mount Aloysius College. I just keep thinking, "Going to college with Lee, how bizarre."

Well, I'm sure that you have tests to study for, too...so I'll wrap it up. This is a Steeler bye-week, so I hope my favorite players are resting up!

Here is a piece of advice from the Big Guy. Don't ask for multiple choice tests. Essays are far better! Watch your paragraph structure and know your stuff! That's how you get good grades in college, just like this guy.

Brush your teeth, and don't forget to floss...

Aye, Welcome Mounties!

I'm glad you came back to read more of my antics from the last week.

First of all, oh Steelers, it was a tough loss! Ben is slowly shaking off the rust, but that's okay. If we didn't lose, winning wouldn't feel so great! And just remember from the history books...Muhammad Ali lost a match every now and then, but he is still the greatest!

Now on to academics. I had two tests for Dr. Smith, both of them gave me wicked hand cramps. I only hope that she can read them because I write essays much better in pencil than in pen! Women's History was a challenging exam. Far East History just seemed a little more organized in my head, but it was also my second major exam, so that probably had something to do with it.

We're almost to the first test in my World Religion class, and we just finished up the caste system and how it was created, which is neat stuff. I just came from my math test. I feel fairly confident in that arena as well.

Aside from that, I'm planning to watch the Women's Volleyball game on Wednesday, so if any of you girls are reading this, let's beat 'em like an egg. Well, it's time to go to Cultural Literacy Seminar. I've got two decent papers to turn in, so wish me luck.

Call your parents and tell them you love them...

Holy Cow! It's Friday!

Holy cow! Can you Mounties believe it? It's Friday!! Friday!

This has been a challenging week, but if you didn't have a challenge, you wouldn't be getting a true college education. My sinus infection, or whatever it was, is gone, and my big 20-gallon head is clear. Luckily, those big comfy couches in the Cosgrave Center are a great location to have a between-class mini-coma.

On a personal note, my cat came back home after seven days of wandering the town. Way to go, Hendrix. Now if I can just get her to leave me alone when I'm trying to study for exams.

Class continues to wrinkle up my brain with Roethlisberger-like efficiency (hahaha...go Steelers!). The college-level math continues to be rigorous, not too bad though. I'm getting the hang of it. Dr. Rolfe is getting into the deep philosophical foundations of Hinduism. He got me really good on Wednesday. I really believed that all religions are seeking the same thing, but I learned that I was wrong. You know what I love about religion? You can never know it all...even if you think you are a know-it-all. We just started learning about Feudal Japan in Asian History. As long as I can hammer out all the foreign words, I'll be cool.

Also, as a side note, I have been inspired to watch more Kung Fu movies...

Well, I think that's the whole story. Okay, like 75 percent. For the good stuff, you'll have to read my autobiography, How I Became President of the Universe, now available in paperback. I'm just kidding.

My Mount Aloysius College experience continues to be great!

Week Three Update

What's up future Mounties?

Last night was a clear black night with a clear white moon. I was trying to consume lots of knowledge and to absorb all of the reading that I have been contemplating over the past several weeks.

It's week three, and the classes continue with rigor. I scored a 4/5 on my math quiz, GRRRR. But, I followed it up with a hundred percent on my religion quiz, and turned in a pretty decent paper in Women's History. Dr. Smith just finished discussing the last dynasty of China, who weren't even Chinese, and Dr. Rolfe is starting to blow our minds with the religions of India. Awesome! The reading assignments are starting to increase, but that's what I like about my life as a history major.

I don't have to look at my schedule to remember where I'm going now, so that's a step in the right direction.

I caught my first cold of the year. I spent most of the day coughing and disturbing the class with my sneezes. My cold medicine cut out in the middle of my night class which was totally brutal. I think it's starting to clear up. Today I can use one nostril!

Opening Convocation is today. It's a requirement for the Cultural Literacy Seminar course. I am not sure what it is, but I'm excited to find out. I know that they have brought in a special guest speaker, so it should be an interesting new experience.

That's about all that is new with me. My friend Julie, who is also an admissions counselor here at Mount Aloysius College, is in Eastern Pennsylvania this week, grabbing up new Mounties for next year, and I'm anxious to see her and to hang out with my other friends at the end of the week.

Current Events and Academics

I don't have much time for small talk today because I have a lot of work to finish this afternoon.

So, how's it going? This week has been full of interesting current events! As I mentioned before, being a history major, you notice that the world changes every day! Crikey! For example, did you hear that Steve Irwin was killed by a stingray barb to the heart? The Crocodile Hunter was hardcore about his profession and will be missed.

What's next? How about the Steelers! Wow! What a great opening game following an amazing Super Bowl victory last season! First, a big thumbs-up to Charlie Batch for his 87-yard touchdown pass to Heath Miller! Willie Parker ran a fast game, and Joey Porter kissed Coach Cowher's chin. It was hilarious. The Steelers are looking pretty super again this year!

But on a more serious note, let's talk academics.

Dr. Rolfe has pulled even with Dr. Smith for instructing my favorite class. Dr. Rolfe has been discussing what defines something as a religion. The class has been analyzing all the twists, turns and paradoxes of what defines religion. I can hardly wait to discuss Taoism, my personal favorite.

In Eastern History, we talked about the first sovereign emperor of China and the development of the Chinese nation's identity. It's really amazing that a country can hold together for 3,000 years, something unparalleled in western culture. These two classes have actually overlapped each other's material more than once, which provides new insight. I love it when a plan comes together.

Finally, I have my first quiz in math with Prof. Bowers. Should be interesting...

That's about that. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and life on top of the mountain is pretty sweet. Mount Aloysius College gets more exciting every day.

Well, I have to go. I'm hitting the books up in the library in about five minutes. Later!

Drink your milk,

Let Me Introduce Myself!

How's it going future Mounties?

It's super-awesome to make your acquaintance. My name is Adam, and I'm a first-year transfer student here at Mount Aloysius College. When you visit campus, you will notice me right away. I'm that guy who is always ducking under the doorways and trying to get past other students in the hall without running them over. I know I look intimidating, but in reality, I like to think I'm just a big ole' cuddly grizzly bear.

I was at another college as a history major and offensive tackle on the football team, but that ship has sailed. Now I am totally pumped to be a part of the History/Political Science Department here at Mount Aloysius College. And yes, if it sounds like I'm a nerd for history, it's because I am. History rocks! What I like about the liberal arts background of the College is that I have a lot of options when designing my schedule.

As far as my classes go, I have mathematics with Prof. Bowers. Math, ouch. Not my strength. I have Cultural Literacy Seminar with Dr. Stere. I like this class because all the students in there are transfers, too, so we all get to know each other. Dr. Rolfe is my professor for World Religions. That's a class I can really get into because I like reviewing different cultures and evaluating their views on spirituality. I also have Dr. Smith for two history classes: Women's History and History and Politics of the Far East. Politics of the Far East is definitely going to be my favorite just because the subject matter is really interesting to me. Dr. Smith even referenced my favorite book ever, Tao of Pooh, by Benjamin Hoff!

That's about all I have for now. Don't worry, there will be more, much more. I hope you guys are as excited about attending Mount Aloysius College as I am! Well, I have to get cracking on my homework, or they will never let me be president of the universe. So, best of luck and if you see me around campus, please say hi!
