Hometown: Lewisburg, PA
Major: Criminal Justice
Why I chose LHU and what I love about it: I chose LHU because it is close to home and I don't like being too far from my family. I enjoy the size of the campus & classes. One of my favorite things to do here is to go walking on the levee when it’s nice outside.
Clubs/Organizations that I am involved with or plan to become involved: I am working hard towards becoming a part of the Criminal Justice Honor Society.
Other Personal Interests:
I love long runs, reading novels, watching game shows (a lot!), fishing, spending time with my family & friends, skiing in Vermont, amusement parks, playing the lottery, opals, & tons of other things!

Finals weeeek!

Hi everyone!
Sorry I haven't posted in awhile, it's been a busy few weeks for me up here in The Haven. This week isn't much better, since it's already finals week. I guess you could say I'm lucky, because I only have one final this week that I actually have to take in the classroom. I have one final online, and an essay that I have to turn in online for my other classes. For my senior seminar class, I had a twenty minute presentation that I had to complete, but I got that out of the way in early November. I only have one test left and I am finally done with finals! It feels so good to get all my work out of the way early on in the week, so I can enjoy myself the rest of the week. I have been working in the admissions office a lot before I leave for Christmas break because I don't think I will be working at all over break when I am at home. When I return to LHU in the Spring, I will be interning at Clinton County Office of Probation and Parole. My internship will be forty hours a week, and it will definietely be a great experience! I will be graduating in early May and then I hope to be getting a job in either community or institutional corrections (basically in probation/parole or in a correctional facility). This also will be my last semester working as a student ambassador for LHU, which is going to be a very sad time on my last day, which is this Friday. I have worked here since my freshmen year, so it has been awhile! I hope everyone has a great Christmas and a great start to the New Year. I also hope you all have enjoyed reading my blog, as this will be my last one. Good luck to you all in finding the college that suits you :)

Thanksgiving Break

Hi everyone,
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, I know I sure did! We had a break from last Tuesday and we just started classes up again yesterday. I went black friday shopping at midnight with my mom and my boyfriend on Thursday night at Kohls and it was absolutely crazy! I went Friday morning then to Harrisburg to the Capital City Mall and a few other places, but I went later in the day so the lines weren't too bad. Did any of you go black friday shopping, and if you did, did you find any great deals?! November 19th was my last open house here as a student ambassador, and this is also my last semester working for the admissions office. It's going to be bittersweet since I have worked here since the second semester of my freshman year! It's nice to have a job on campus and to be able to interact with the perspective students though :) I sure am going to miss it! I hope everyone is having a great start to the week and enjoying this beautiful weather while you can! Talk to you all soon :)

Rainy weather :/

Hi everyone,
I hope everyone is having a great start to the week:) Last week was very stressful for me in the sense that I had so much work to do! I finally finished my senior presentation and presented it last Friday which was very exciting. I conducted research on the effect gangs have on the citizens in California. I am so glad that it's finally done so I am home free in that class, since I now only have to go to class and watch everyone else present. I also had to do a federal resume which was due on Friday, but I didn't mind doing that because it's a great thing to have when I am applying for federal jobs. We had a guest speaker in my criminology class last week from the Pennsylvania State Police: Liquor Control Enforcement which was really neat. Basically his job is going and hanging out in bars & fining them for everything that they are violating! Another guest speaker in my Juvenile Justice class was pretty neat too- he came from the Clinton County Probation Office which was nice to learn about because that is where I will be interning in the Spring semester-so excited! I hope everyone has a great week!!

Long week ahead

Hi everyone,
I hope everyone had a great weekend :) I sure did, even though it was filled with a lot of work. I also worked this past weekend at the Admissions Office, doing Saturday Group! This week is going to be probably the busiest week I have had all semester :( I have a Criminal Justice Club meeting on Tuesday night, on Wednesday night I have a computers exam, and on Friday I have a twenty article annotated bibliography due and a twenty minute presentation in my Senior Seminar class! I am so excited that I am getting it done early though, because then the remainder of the class period that I have left after Friday for that class are all going to be other people presenting their topics, which means all my work is done for that class then! My senior year sure has been a busy one, and it's going to be so nice next semester when I have an internship five days a week instead of classes. I hope everyone has a great week!!

Halloween Weekend!

Hey guys,
I hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween weekend:) I dressed up Friday and Saturday night, and on Friday I was an indian and on Saturday I was a referee. I can't believe that it snowed up here in Lock Haven on Saturday! It seems way too early for that kind of weather, especially in October. My sophomore year here I remember we got a HUGE snowstorm in OCTOBER, so I guess what we got yesterday was okay compared to that. This upcoming week sure is going to be a busy one for me, with a lot of work to be done. For my senior seminar class I have to write an annotated bibliography on 20 articles and then do a 20 minute presentation for my final in the class, which is going to be really stressful. I am presenting on the topic of "the effective gangs have on citizens living in Los Angeles, CA". It's definitely an interesting topic but still a ton of work. For another one of my classes I am doing a presentation on the drug cartels in Columbia! My criminal justice classes are very interesting to me in the sense that there is so much you can do research on. I hope everyone has a great start to the week and I will be back to write more soon :)

End of October

Hi everyone,
It's definitely been awhile since I last blogged! It's already a new school year and the semester is already over half way done. I am in my senior year now and I sure am busy. This year I am now the acting president of the Criminal Justice Club, which is a big step up. It's a lot of work but will be worth it in the long run. Last Thursday we took a trip to Lewisburg Penitentiary and got to take a tour there. It was very interesting to say the least. This is my last semester of classes and next semester I will have an internship at Clinton County Probation Office. I'm very excited for that :) We have already had two open houses but if you missed either of them and are looking to come to our last one for the fall semester it's on Saturday November 19th! They are definitely something good to look into and you learn a lot of information there. Hope everyone has a good week:)

Finals Week

Hi guys,
Sorry I haven't written in so long, but it's finals week up here and I have been super busy. I hope you all had a great Easter (even though I am a little late on that one!) Anyway, I can't believe that the semester is coming to an end, and I will soon be starting my SENIOR year. AH! Everyone says time flies when you're in college, but believe me, it flies a lot faster than you think. My boyfriend is graduating this Friday from Lock Haven so I am excited to get to go to the graduation. Another exciting thing is that going into my senior year I only have FIVE more classes I need to complete, and then I have 15 more credits of elective that I am hoping to fill with an internship. I hope to get an internship in a prison, since that is where I think I want to work, and that way I can see if that's what I really want or not. Internships are a great way to get a feel for things, and if they offer them in your major you should definetely look into them :) Well to wrap this up, since this will be my last blog, I hope everyone has a great summer :)

Washington DC

Hey guys,
What an eventful past weekend I just had! I went to Washington DC with the criminal justice club (clubs are a GREAT thing to join on any college campus). It was so much fun :) We got "special treatment" since we went with one of our criminal justice professors. The first day that we were there we got to go to the Department of State and had a presentation which was so interesting. After we did all of that we got to go and explore the city and take pictures of the White House and things like that! The second day we went to the Drug Enforcement Administration, following that we went to the Holocaust museum. Tickets to the main exhibit were sold out but we got to go through an exhibit that was a re-enactment of a survivors story and that was really sad and touching. The last day we were there we went to Fairfax County Police Department and we learned some interesting things there! It was such a FUN weekend and I learned so many new things! This upcoming weekend is Easter weekend and I am going to be going home for the weekend. I will probably do something fun while I am home so my next blog will be about that! Have a wonderful week and keep reading everyone :)

Spring Spring Spring

Hey guys!
So I think all of us up here in Lock Haven thought we were finally going to get spring weather with the 70 degree temperature on Monday! Turns out it started to POUR and now it's a bit chilly again. I cannot wait until the weather is finally nice and stays nice :) This week/weekend is going to be super busy for me, because I need to get a lot of my work done since next weekend I am going to be in Washington D.C. Before I know it, it will already be finals week. So much work to do and so little time.. but isn't that how everything always goes? I worked really hard on a speech that I did on obesity for my class last week, and I was so happy when I got it back and I got a 100% on it. For my final in that class, we have to complete a "persuasive" speech, and I chose to do mine on "Tolling route 80". A lot of you may be thinking why?!?! since route 80 is a direct route into Lock Haven, but there are so many other things to consider when thinking about tolling the interstate. My speech isn't until the middle of April, so in another post I will go into more detail for those who are interested! I hope everyone has a great week and an even better weekend!

RALLY!

Hi everyone,
So, I'm sure you're all aware of the proposed budget cut that Govorner Tom Corbett is being targeted for. If the budget gets passed, state funding for state schools will be cut by over 50%. If this happens, that means a rise in tuiton for us here at Lock Haven University. The reason I am telling you about this is because yesterday, March 28,2011, there was a rally on the steps of the capital in Harrisburg, PA. What's so neat about this rally is that on Sunday, around 9:00pm, members of the Lock Haven University cross country team set out on a journey to run to Harrisburg, to be present at the rally. The cross country team took turns running "legs" of the run, and they made it there yesterday! That is such a big accomplishment on the part of Lock Haven University and the story made top news all over PA news channels :) YAY for the cross country team! This Saturday, April 2nd is the last open house of the spring so sign up!! I hope everyone has a great week :)
