Name: Heidi Crooks
Year: Freshman
Hometown: Muncy, PA
Major: Undeclared
Why I chose LHU and what I love about it: It's a small, clean campus near home with a great reputation in my desired major. The teacher and people are very friendly, and will make it a great place to spend the next for years at.
Other personal interests: I'm very random, so I do a bunch of things at spur of the moment. I enjoy watching football and just hanging out...GO EAGLES! I love movies and music, and just spending time with friends and family.

Summer Break

Oh summer break…
Since I’ve been home I’ve been working a lot to start to save some money for next semester and to pay some bills. I’m getting an apartment next semester with some of the girls from my sorority. I’m really looking forward to that. I have also been catching up on my sleep and hanging out with my friends from home. Our high school graduation is coming up, and my best friend is graduating so I’m trying to spend some time with her and get ready for that.
Online and summer classes started yesterday. I’m taking an online math class to get caught up. I haven’t really started looking at it yet…kind of still pushing it off I guess.
My life is pretty boring lately. Sorry readers. :]

Dear Finals....I hate you....Love, Heidi

So finals are finally here, which means 24 hour quiet hours in the dorms, packing, and late nights in the library. The end of the year is winding down, and I couldn't have more mixed feelings about it. I'm so happy for this stressful semester to be over, yet I'm going to miss everyone like crazy. Some of my best friends are up here, and it’s going to be hard to not be able to see them for several months. But at the same time, I’m glad to go home and spend time with my family and friends and begin working at home again. It'll be a nice break from studying. However, I’m taking a math course online to catch up and hopefully maybe still graduate on time.

So that's all I've been up to, working here on campus, studying, and hanging out with some of my close friends. It is a good idea to find a job here on campus when you get here because it gives you some extra money while you're here, very flexible hours, and you get to meet a lot of great people. Some of my closest friends are people that I work with.

I hope all of you have a wonderful summer & are ready to come to "The Haven!”
Feel free to drop me any questions, e-mail or whatnot.

Bill Clinton & The Gym Class Heroes

I don't know if you readers have heard anything but this past Thursday former president Bill Clinton was here on campus speaking. He was encouraging voters for his wife Hilary Clinton. I decided to go to get more informed on that side of the Democratic Party, before placing my votes for primaries. I might not always agree with him, but overall I’m happy that I went.

We also had a concert here on campus. Last year it was Taking Back Sunday, and this year it was The Gym Class Heroes. It was an ok concert...I wasn't too thrilled, but it was ok.

Relay & Greek Week

Well this week has been extremely busy. Relay was a very big success. We raised over $20,000. Our original goal was only $10,000, and it was mandatory for us to get that in order for Lock Haven to host the event again next year and by the night of relay we had well over $16,000. My family came up for the event, and many on campus participated. There were over 35 teams in the recreation center. It was a really good time.

This week both the sororities and fraternities on campus participated in a traditional event called “Greek Week.” Every night the girls and guys play a sport and gain points from their rankings in the game. Events included: kick ball, floor hockey, volleyball, dodge ball, soccer, and air bands. It came down to the wire and finally Sigma Kappa won for the sororities.

Oh Spring Time!

Let me just tell you, when it comes time to schedule you are going to go INSANE! You’ll have to switch things around, e-mail teachers, and so on and so forth. It gets pretty crazy and stressful, but it’s good after your first semester. The first semester your classes are pretty much picked for you depending on your major and what your advisor thinks is the best choice. BUT when you get to your second semester to get to choose your own classes and times and hopefully get away from those dreadful things that we like to call 8am classes…haha.

This week has been a pretty good one on campus. The weather is starting to get warmer and everything is thawing out from all the snow and cold weather we got here in Lock Haven. It’s nice to walk around sometimes with out a coat, take a nice walk by the river, and just hang outside with friends. The winter months can drag on, but the summer and spring here at “the Haven” are pretty nice. It’s a very nice campus, and I hope all of you get the opportunity to come here. The musical is here on campus and a lot of people are ranting and raving about it. And out concert that we have every year is coming up next weekend. This year we are having The Gym Class Heroes play, and everyone is pretty excited.

This weekend otherwise is dedicated to and organization that I am a part of on campus called “Colleges against Cancer” also known as the CAC. We’re having an event here at our REC center that I’m hoping all of you are familiar with called “Relay for Life”. My friends and I from Woolridge Dorm have a team and have raised a good amount of money for it. So since it’s so close to home my family is coming up for the special event, and in memory of my grandfather who passed away about a month ago from 3 different types of Cancer. So I will defiantly get some pictures up in my next blog for all of you to check out!

expansion on the last entry

Hey Readers! I kind of just wanted to expand on what I was saying in my last blog. It is really good to make friends and get involved in things early on in your first semester, even the first day. This way you have someone to go to the gym with, someone to go get dinner with, maybe even someone to walk to class with. It just makes the start of you college experience a lot less stressful, and lonely if you had someone there as compared to being alone.
Also GET INVOLVED! There are so many clubs, organizations, fraternities, sororities and such on campus that will make it a lot easier to fit in and make friends. There are dance groups, theater groups, arts, music…pretty much everything you can think of. The SCC (student cooperative council) is good at planning things to do on the weekend and even during the week. You’ll never get bored, but if you don’t get out there, make friends and get involved you’ll regret it in the long run.

Introduction

Hey everyone! For my first entry I wanted to give you a little information about myself. I come from a small town on the other side of Williamsport called Muncy. I graduated in 2007 from a very small class. I came to Lock Haven knowing I wanted to major in Elementary Education; however I came into school undeclared. I’m currently in my second semester here at Lock Haven University.
My first semester was full of a lot of new experiences. I met a lot of really cool people and have made some of my best friends already. The classes are completely different than they are in high school. You defiantly get larger reading assignments, bigger papers, and a lot more work. But classes really aren’t all the scary as people might warn you about. It is defiantly manageable, and if you don’t have good time management skills you will start to develop them in the first couple of weeks. One of the things that I like better about college as compared to high school would be that I’m on my own, in control of when I go to sleep, wake up, eat, do my homework, go out with friends, and whatever else I choose to do in my free time. It teaches you to be responsible and look out for yourself without relying on everyone else.
This is currently my second semester and I’m finally a declared elementary education major. For education majors it is defiantly a lot of work for you to do, but like they often say, “it’ll be worth it in the end.” I am currently pledging in a sorority on campus – Zeta Tau Alpha. It is the largest sorority on campus, and it is filled with some of the best girls you could possibly meet. It’s good to have a family away from your family. They have been there for me through threw the tragedy of losing my grandfather to cancer the beginning of the second semester. Zeta tau Alpha (ZTA) focuses on raising money for breast cancer awareness and education. It has defiantly been one of the best choices in my life to join. I would advise you to join a group, it doesn’t have to be a sorority or fraternity on campus, but it can be a club or something. Just something to get you involved with things, and a way for you to start making new friends.
