Why I chose LHU and what I love about it: I chose LHU because of its size (not too big and not too small) and I like the way the Communications Media program is organized. I love it because of the people I have met and the opportunities that are available through clubs and jobs.
Clubs/Organizations I'm involved with or plan to become involved: I am a Resident Assistant (RA) in Woolridge hall. I am the News Editor of the Eagle Eye student newspaper and will become the Editor in Chief next year.

The Concert

Last weekend Lock Haven University hosted its annual spring concert which was headlined by the Gym Class Heroes. The concert also featured rapper Tyga, hip hop duo Kidz in the Hall and punk rockers I am the Avalanche. When I heard about this line up I was both excited and intrigued. I am a big Gym Class Heroes fan, but was unfamiliar with the openers. I did a bit of research and by the concert's end I was impressed by all three of them.
Every year LHU welcomes a student-selected artist to perform for the spring concert. Students are given the chance to vote, and barring any scheduling difficulties the selected performer is booked for the show. This year the majority vote was won by T-Pain, but because of his busy schedule the second choice was picked.
This year's concert offered a musical buffet of genres that kept the whole crowd entertained. When bands don't have much popularity a high energy performance is paramount, and all of the acts delivered.
Now, let the countdown to next year's big show begin, I know I can't wait.

The Activities

I found the key.
The key to my future. The key to friends. The key to keeping me entertained. There is one key that fits into all of these doors and it is involvement.
As a freshman, I realized quickly that classes and my friends in the residence hall were all important, but I wanted more. So I got involved with LHU’s student-run newspaper, The Eagle Eye. The Eagle Eye has given me all of the things I mentioned earlier. I have learned innumerable lessons from writing and reporting for the Eagle Eye that I could not learn in the classroom. It also kept me busy and allowed me to meet some of my best friends. I was able to meet great people that share my interests.
My involvement here at Lock Haven has gone beyond a club that helps me with my major. I also became involved in the Summer Orientation program as a sophomore. For two weeks the last two summers I worked as a Student Orientation Leader. This job still goes down as the most fun job I’ve ever held. I was able to meet new students and welcome them to the Lock Haven family with fun activities and event.
Finally, my work with orientation brought me into another leadership position during the school year. I am wrapping up my second year as a Resident Assistant or RA. This job has given me the opportunity to meet so many good students and lead a variety of fun and exciting programs. This job has also helped me meet more good friends along the way.
Through simple involvement I’ve been able to achieve so many things and help my future so much. The best part about getting involved at LHU is that there is something for everyone. The last time I checked there are over 130 clubs on campus and the number is growing. A therapeutic recreation club and a learn to speak Spanish club were both recently approved by the Student Cooperative Council (the student government).
Finding this key early was the best thing I could have done and it is available for anyone who is looking for it.

The Introduction

Dear potential students, university employees, friends and blog enthusiasts,
Typically my blog won't be in letter format, but I decided the best way to welcome the people is to greet the people. So, hello and welcome. As I'm sure you can guess, I am one of 8 bloggers that post for Lock Haven University's Admissions Office. On a weekly basis I will be sharing my adventures, my views and my feelings about the place I have called home-away-from-home for the past three years.
Aside from joy of writing I was selected to be an LHU blogger because of my love for the university. It all began in 2004 when I set out on the journey that is selecting a college. After hearing my guidance counselor’s suggestion that I should look at Lock Haven I checked out their website. I was impressed with structure of the Communication Media program and quickly placed the Haven on the top of "colleges to visit list."
As I would eventually discover, this was a very short list. I looked at other websites and found them to be uninspiring. So I planned a visit to LHU that summer. My parents and I made the 2 hour trip to Lock Haven from Clarks Summit, which is near Scranton, PA. We found the quick jaunt down I80 to be a simple one.
We checked out the school and everything about it fit into my vision of what college should be like. I enjoyed the scenery, small class sizes and most importantly the people I met. After that visit I applied to LHU and eventually made one more visit for an Open House.
In the fall of my senior year I watched my guidance counselor sweat bullets after I explained that I would be going to Lock Haven and it was the only university I would be applying to. I figured why waste the time filling out those pesky applications. While this might not have been the wisest way to go everything was fine a few weeks later when I was accepted.
After Summer Orientation and my first move-in day I really immersed myself in this place, making friends, attending events and getting involved in numerous activities (which I will no doubt explain and rave about in the future).
So because my love of the Haven earned me this spot in the Blogosphere I will share the events and experiences that have helped to perpetuate it.
Sincerely,
Adam
