when it's all been said and done
I've decided I've got to learn how to say no. Honestly, I've known of this problem for years. But the other night, a conversation illuminated me into just how direly I need this. See example.
Friend 1: We need someone to put together thank you bags.
Friend 2: Well who are you thinking about
Friend 3: I can't, I'm sorry.
Libby: Not it!
Friend 2: Well, what are you thinking. There are other people.
Friend 1: I trust everyone in this circle.
Libby: I mean, I guess I could.
Friend 2: Tell me you can't.
Libby: Ok. No.
Friend 1: Are you sure?
Friend 2: Look me in the eye and say "no"
Libby: No.
Friend 2: You're not looking.
Libby: No, No, No, No, No.
Friend 2: Good job.
Friend 1: Well now who's gonna do it?
...20 minutes later...
Libby: If you can't get anyone else, let me know. I can pull something together by Friday.
Friend 1: Ok, thanks!
...3 hours later...
Libby: I don't have any time!!!!!!!!!!!
Right. I have a problem. And I'm not kidding when I say this. I think a lot of people have it. And unfortunately, a lot of us are going into ministry. The majority of us are actually. It's called the savior complex.
I wonder when I'll really learn I can't do it all. Oh, right. It's this quarter. When I don't get it all done.
it's gonna be a long week, folks. I'll talk to you post-graduation. In the meantime, here's a question: Do you really know what a savior complex is? Do you struggle with one yourself? What is your vice in ministry, life, etc.?
